Raw Steel Hockey is an all-volunteer organization structured to promote the development of our youth, the hockey team, and the sport of roller hockey.

Raw Steel Hockey is not just an inexpensive place to play hockey.  Our volunteers invest a lot of resources into building Raw Steel Hockey so that families are provided with an alternative choice to expensive hockey programs.  All Raw Steel Hockey participants understand that our existence is to inspire our youth to practice the ideals of health, citizenship and character; to implant the game elements of safety, sanity, and intelligent supervision; and to keep the welfare of the player first, foremost, and entirely free of adult lust or glory.  Raw Steel Hockey is a place where players can develop their personal skills and apply these skills in a team environment free from ridicule and judgment.

Raw Steel Hockey may save on expenses, but participation comes with a price.  Each coach, manager, player, and family member must uphold the Core Values of Raw Steel Hockey and must maintain Raw Steel’s reputation as a respectable hockey club.

Raw Steel Hockey believes in the fundamental aspect of youth sports:

Players Play

Coaches Coach

Parents Parent

Here are the Raw Steel Hockey Core Values:

1.    Team Development

a.    Raw Steel Hockey does not actively recruit players from other clubs or teams. Players join Raw Steel on their own accord, given consideration of the Raw Steel Team Charter.

b.    Raw Steel Hockey is designed to teach more than just hockey. We believe that successful hockey players should develop a positive attitude, discipline, respect, humility, leadership, listening skills, responsibility for their actions, and confidence in their overall abilities.  In meeting these goals:

                                          i.    We are committed to helping each player develop fundamental hockey skills.

ii.    We will teach each player to understand and learn how to play as a team and how to participate in team sports.

iii.    We will stress sportsmanship at all levels and work hard to not criticize another team member, the referees, or members of the opposing team. We will expect sportsmanship from all players, coaches, and parents.

iv.    We will always demonstrate friendly and courteous attitudes toward opponents and game referees play fairly and strive for good values.

                                        v.    Players shall play for the love of the game - winning without extreme ego, losing without excuses, and never quit.

2.    Coaching

a.    Raw Steel Hockey will attract and retain coaches of the highest personal and professional caliber. Raw Steel coaches serve as the front line leaders of this hockey club who are entrusted to promote the development of the player, the hockey team, the Raw Steel Hockey Club, and the sport of roller hockey.

b.    Raw Steel coaches recognize the boundaries of their particular competencies and the limitations of their expertise. They provide only those services and use only those techniques for which they are qualified by education, training, or experience.

c.    Raw Steel coaches are honest, fair, and respectful of others and to the duties of which they are entrusted.

d.    Raw Steel coaches respect the fundamental rights, dignity, and worth of all those taking part in organized sports. Coaches are aware of cultural, individual, and role differences, including those of age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, and socioeconomic status.

e.    Raw Steel coaches seek to contribute to the welfare of those with whom they interact. When conflicts occur, coaches attempt to resolve these conflicts and perform their roles in a responsible fashion that avoids or minimizes harm to the player, the team, and the Raw Steel Hockey Club.

f.     Raw Steel coaches are aware of their responsibilities to the community and the society in which they work and live. Coaches try to avoid misuse of their work. Coaches comply with the law.

3.    Volunteers and Parents

a.    Raw Steel strives to provide excellence in all aspects of our program. We realize that successful programs and teams start with our volunteers. It is our desire to continue improving our hockey programs through the increased participation of parents and other volunteers.

b.    Raw Steel realizes that successful programs and teams include parents. It is our desire to work with the parents in providing the best possible program for the hockey players. As an all-volunteer organization, we encourage parent participation.

Together, we can develop and maintain a positive reputation for Raw Steel Hockey by requiring all participants – players, coaches, parents and volunteers – to exhibit sportsmanship and behavior that is beyond reproach at all times.
